Hot Honey Hawaiian Pizza

A retro dish with a modern twist, the classic pizza topping combo of slightly salty pork (in this case, Niman Ranch Uncured Canadian Bacon) and pineapple is back in the spotlight. Here, it’s reinvented with hot honey, a spicy-sweet condiment that adds a little kick when drizzled over the hot pie. For even more oomph, scatter a handful of thinly sliced jalapeño on top and you’re ready to rock.

Ingredients

2 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

1 (7-ounce) package Niman Ranch Uncured Canadian Bacon

1 cup (½-inch) diced fresh pineapple

1 (16-ounce) store-bought pizza dough, prepped according to package directions.

Salt, to taste

¾ cup marinara sauce

cups (6 ounces) shredded mozzarella cheese

1 small jalapeño, thinly sliced (optional)

1 large garlic clove, thinly sliced

Handful fresh basil leaves

Hot honey, for serving

Cooking Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 475 degrees. Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a 12-inch cast-iron skillet over medium-high. Add Canadian bacon slices in a single layer (it’s OK if some pieces slightly overlap). Cook until both sides are browned, flipping once, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Remove to a plate.
  2. Add pineapple to the skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized, 3 to 5 minutes. Transfer to the plate with the Canadian bacon. Turn off the heat under the skillet.
  3. Coat pizza dough in 1 tablespoon olive oil and form into a 12-inch round, then carefully fit into the hot skillet. Turn heat to medium-low and cook until the underside just starts to brown, 3 to 4 minutes. Season the top of the dough with salt. Spread marinara on top, then sprinkle with 1 cup of the cheese.
  4. Arrange whole Canadian bacon slices, pineapple, jalapeño (if using), and garlic evenly on top of the cheese. Scatter the remaining ½ cup cheese over everything.
  5. Bake pizza until the cheese is melted and bubbling and the crust is golden brown, 12 to 15 minutes. Carefully remove the pan from the oven and rest on the stove for 5 minutes; scatter basil on top. Using a large spatula, remove the pizza from the pan to a cutting board. Cut into 8 slices, drizzle with hot honey, and serve immediately.
