Humane Animal Care

Why Humane Animal Care

Since the company’s founding nearly 50 years ago, Niman Ranch livestock have been humanely raised according to the strictest animal handling protocols. This care is better for the farmers and the animals – and it’s the foundation for producing meat of exceptional quality and rich, natural flavor.

Defining Humane Animal Care

Treating livestock humanely is core to Niman Ranch. We are committed to raising all of our livestock to the highest animal welfare standards.

  • Our livestock are always raised outdoors or in deeply bedded pens
  • Our farms and ranches are third-party animal welfare certified by leading non-profits like Certified Humane and Global Animal Partnership.
  • No cages, no crates, no tail docking or teeth clipping
  • No added hormones or antibiotics – EVER
  • Fully compliant with California’s Proposition 12 (The Farm Animal Confinement Initiative) and Massachusetts’ Question 3 (The Act to Prevent Cruelty to Farm Animals), which ban the sale of meat from farms using gestation crates. Learn more.
